About the Pre-Professional
Master Classes & Residency
Monday, July 3 – Friday, July 7, 2023
Pre-Professional Program Tuition $560 ($611 after June 5, 2023)
Tap City gives students the freedom to select a range of styles and allow you to design your own program to suit your level and training needs. (ages 14-18)
Please Note: PPP Participants can not register for any of the Adult Program Master Classes. PPP Master Classes are built into an all exclusive program.
PPP PRE-PLACEMENT: All PPP students must be accepted into the program. Please send a submission or web link (via YouTube) that demonstrates your technique and performance skills showing the following material: time-steps, paddle and roll combinations, pull backs, wings, favorite flash step, and perform a 2-3 minute tap choreography piece/excerpt to music demonstrating your ability to keep time while expressing your personal style. Once the submitted web link is reviewed, each student will be evaluated and contacted regarding acceptance into the Pre-Professional Program. Not all applicants will be accepted. Space is limited to 35 dancers in two levels. Tap City’s popular Teen program (ages 14-18) is geared specifically to advanced teens and young adults seeking a challenging and unique educational and performance opportunity. The all-inclusive program focuses on honing well-rounded tap skills in a professional environment that stresses self-discipline and excellence. Selected by video audition, students will work intensively with a professional tap choreographer in the preparation of tap choreography that will be performed on the last day of the program.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:
PRE-PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM ORIENTATION: On Monday morning, please join our PPP Director, Susan Hebach and Staff at 9:15am for a short orientation.
WARM UP & REP REVIEW: Each morning begins with time to warm and review of repertory from the day before.
REPERTORY: Each morning, Monday-Thursday, students will work with Master Tap Choreographer LISA LA TOUCHE learning a professional-level work of tap repertory. Over the four days they will polish the work and prepare it for performance. On Friday evening students will perform their newly-minted work for other Tap City students, friends, and family at the Tap Future performance, at Symphony Space.
LUNCH: On the first day of the Repertory Rehearsal, students will meet at lunchtime with the choreographer for videos and talk about their dance careers. Students should bring a bag lunch. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, students will have a 1-hour lunch break.
PPP STUDIO EVENTS: TBA
PPP MASTER CLASSES: Afternoons, the dancers will have special master classes with VIKAS ARUN, LUKE HICKEY, JOHN MANZARI & CALEB TEICHER FRIDAY TAP FUTURE STAGE REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE: On Friday, all the Pre-Professional Program tap dancers will report to Symphony Space for a stage rehearsal (Time TBA). STUDENT PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES:
1) Tap Future Concert: FRIDAY, JULY 7 (8pm)

Tap City puts ALL of our students on stage featuring the newly minted work from the Tap City 2023 Residencies, selected works created by our students, our faculty, surprise guests and film clips and performances honoring this year’s awardees of the annual HOOFER, TAP PRESERVATION and INTERNATIONAL TAP DANCE HALL OF FAME Awards.
Tickets: General: $45, Children 17 & under/Student/Senior: $25
On Friday, July 7th, students will meet at Symphony Space to rehearse and perform the new repertory work they learned throughout the festival week. All Adult students will perform in the Tap Future concert at 8pm in the evening. Invite your family and friends to see our newly minted works.
2) Copasetic Boat Ride: Wednesday, July 5 (boards at 6:30pm, sails at 7pm, returns at 10pm)
NOTE: In addition, and by audition only, selected students/groups will perform on a Broadway stage in the evening performance of Tap Future (Friday, July 7). Pieces must be 3 minutes or less.
