Join us as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary!
Joyce Theater, 175 8th Avenue
For 25 years, the American Tap Dance Foundation (ATDF) has been a cornerstone of the art form, honoring its past while shaping its future. This season, founder Tony Waag’s Tap City, the New York City Tap Festival, celebrates tap across generations, styles, and artistic visions.
The program features classic Copasetic repertory, including the Coles Stroll and Chair Dance, alongside My Mind Is on Mingus, Brenda Bufalino’s iconic solo passed on to Michelle Dorrance. New works include Anthony Morigerato’s Endless, a world premiere that imagines tap dance as a fully integrated theatrical space, and excerpts from Soles of Duende’s The Kitchen, a rhythm-driven work-in-progress rooted in ritual, joy, and the intimacy of shared meals.
Performed by an extraordinary lineup of tap masters and emerging artists, the program reveals the full spectrum of tap dance, accompanied by live music and rare archival footage from ATDF.
Leading Tap masters and up & coming young hoofers include: Terry Brock, Nathan Bugh, Karen Callaway Williams, Michelle Dorrance, DeWitt Fleming Jr., Felipe Galganni (aka Xana DuMe) , Ryan Johnson, Lisa La Touche, Anthony Morigerato, Max Pollak, Jason Samuels Smith, Soles of Duende (Amanda Castro, Brinda Guha & Arielle Rosales) and Caleb Teicher.
Directed and curated by ATDF’s Founding Artistic Director Tony Waag, the program showcases the variety of styles inherent to the form accompanied by live music and rare historic footage from the ATDF archives.
