For Youth, Teen (PPP) & Adult “Take it to the Studio” Showcases:

An audition video is NOT required.  Print and complete a Performance Application and send by June 28, 2010.  Applications are accepted from teachers, companies, schools and individuals.  All festival students in the Youth Program, Mini-Fest, and Pre-Professional Program will have the opportunity to perform either the “Lunch Box” Show or “Take it to the Studio”.  Pieces must be 3 minutes (or less) in duration. Read below for music requirements.  We will accept Showcase Applications until July 6, 2009.

Music Requirements:  Only professional quality recorded CDs are acceptable.  Badly burned CDs that are inaudible will result in your dancing a cappella.  We suggest you test your CD on several different players to ensure it will work for your performance.  Only the piece that you are performing should be on your CD.  Please bring one copy for your performance and bring a backup copy with you.  Both CDs should be labeled with name of group and name of piece. Remember to collect your CD's from the stage manager at the end of your performance.  The ATDF is not responsible for any music that is left behind during the Festival.  Students may not perform to live music at the Adult Showcase—no piano will be available and the Showcase staff cannot technically support live musical accompaniment.

Tap Future - All Student Performance:  All program participants will have the opportunity to perform their Residency Choreography in this show.

Audition Video Requirements for program placement:

Performers are chosen by video audition submission only.

To audition for the Tap Youth/Tap Future Concert performance, your submissions must be 4 minutes (or less) in duration.  Your sending must represent the exact piece of work that you wish to be considered, to the same music, using the same amount of dancers, and in the same exact attire that you will be wearing for this performance. Audition footage must be in DVD or VHS American NTSC Format only. European and overseas applicants: video must be compatible with American video systems; we cannot accept PAL or SECAM formats.

We will not accept multiple packages of separate submission information or materials. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

We are excited to see our new tappers for Festival 2009, and we can't wait to see our returning student's improvements each year, so start sending your pieces now!
We are awaiting your videos with great anticipation, Good Luck!

Deadline: Tap Youth/Tap Future submissions deadline is May 15, 2009.

General $20

Children 17 & under/Symph. Member/College Student/Senior: $10

ADULT SHOWCASE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Click here for a printable Performance Application FORM

Eligibility:
The Adult Student Showcase is an opportunity for all Tap City students (ages 15+) to share their talents with each other.  An audition video is NOT required for the Adult Showcase.  Students must fill out and submit a Performance Application and must register for classes.  All Showcase performers must be enrolled in a minimum one adult residency or three adult master classes.  This application will reserve your spot in the Adult Showcase, but participation is not confirmed until all performers have registered for Tap City classes.

Showcase Tickets:  All Showcase performers will sit in the audience to cheer each other on.  Residency students will receive their Showcase ticket at Tap City (included in tuition).  Showcase performers who are not registered in a Residency must purchase their own Showcase ticket.  Tickets for performers, family and friends are available through the Symphony Space box office (see above).

Time Constraints:  we want to give everyone a chance to perform, so ensembles, duets, and trios are encouraged to apply.  Soloists will be considered only if time permits.  Students may perform in a maximum of two Residency works and one additional work.  Showcase pieces must be 3 minutes (or less) in duration.

Deadline:  Space permitting, we will accept Showcase Applications until July 6, 2009.  Performance slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and we encourage ensembles to apply early.  Full details about the Residencies and Showcase will be sent to students after registration.

Again, there are two ways to get a performance opportunity:

  • Send a Performance Application and register for a minimum of 3 Master Classes or 1 Adult Residency:  for groups who wish to perform their own material.
  • Register for an Adult Residency:  for students who wish to learn material to perform.  Our 2009 Master Choreographers are:
    • Michelle Dorrance – Advanced
    • Derick K. Grant – Advanced
    • The Pete Nugent Project, taught by Susan Hebach – Intermediate
    • DeWitt Fleming – Advanced Beginning
