The Adult Program and Master Classes give you freedom to select a range of styles and allow you to design your own program to suit your level and training needs. Select from 4-Day Residencies and 2-Day Courses (for adults and teens 15 and up) and Master Classes (are for ages 12 and up).

Do you have the urge to emerge? Tap City offers a performance opportunity to adult students, teachers, professional groups, and senior ensembles. Tap dancers will perform for each other—on Broadway!--in an informal showcase open to all adult Tap City students It’s a chance to see and be seen, with all showcase performers sitting in the audience to watch the works of fellow amateur and professional groups from around the US and around the world. Students from the 4-Day Residencies will also get up and show their newly minted work.

Application Requirements:
In order to be eligible for a performance opportunity, students must be registered in either an Adult 4-Day Residency or a minimum of three Master Classes.
Students need to fill out and submit a Showcase Application for an opportunity to perform. An audition video is NOT required for the Adult Showcase. Visit Performance Opportunities for instructions and application.

4-Day Residencies (ages 15 to adult): Students work intensively with a choreographer over four days (Sunday through Wednesday) to learn a work of tap dance repertory. Each Repertory group will perform their newly learned tap piece at the Adult Student Showcase at Symphony Space on Wednesday evening, July 9 (students may opt out of the performance if they wish). Residency tuition includes a ticket for each performer to sit in the audience for the Showcase. Invite your family and friends to the Showcase to cheer everyone on! - Ernest “Brownie” Brown & Reggio McLaughlin – Mixed Level - “Old Man Time”. Spend four days with tap legend “Brownie” Brown and learn the famous comic tap routine performed by Cook and Brown with the Copasetics.
- Barbara Duffy – Advanced - Getting Inside the Music: A new tap work set to an uptempo swing tune focusing on interpreting the musical and rhythmic lines of the jazz soloist, using solid technique and full body expression.
- Derick K. Grant – Advanced Beginner - D. Grant's Groove: Spend 4 days working at an easy pace, cleaning technique, developing phrasing and style, and learning Derick Grant's swinging choreography.
2-Day Courses (ages 15 to adult): 2-Day Courses on Thursday and Friday meet two days in a row, at the same 90 minute class time, with the same teacher and students. Courses give students and teacher the opportunity to work in depth on technique, repertory and tap concepts.
Master Classes (ages 12 to adult): select from 16 different master classes for a wide variety of styles and approaches to tap artistry. Master classes are on Saturday, Thursday and Friday and meet once for a 90 minute class.
Levels for Adult Program and Master Classes (listed in order of most challenging to easiest):
ADV: Fast moving or challenging classes for advanced and professional tap dancers.
MIX: Mixed level classes for intermediate & advanced dancers. Students will work at their own level. Material taught may allow students to work more deeply on moderately paced or challenging concepts
INT: Easy paced intermediate classes for students who are very comfortable with the basics, time steps, paddle & roll, and are ready for moderately challenging choreography.
ADV BEG: Advanced Beginning classes for students who are comfortable with flaps, shuffles, time steps, paddle & roll. Excellent choice for dancers with just a few years experience or older dancers who want to learn at an easy pace.
BEG: Beginning level classes for students who already know flaps and shuffles and are ready to learn fun and easy combinations.
INTRO: If you’ve always wanted to try tap, this is your chance. No experience necessary, some loaner tap shoes available. If you can walk, you can tap.
