Prior to ATDO's first performance for the Harbor Festival in Battery Park, an informal video taping with an invited audience was presented. 12 dancers, 2 vocalists, 4 musicians, & guest artists: Charles "Cookie" Cook, Buster Brown and Tina Pratt.

Six performances at the Battery Park
Salute to the Statue of Liberty. ATDO performed out of doors before audiences of thousands. Guest soloists included the late Charles "Cookie" Cook, the late Buster Brown and Tina Pratt.

Tap Jam from the steps of the New York Public Library at Fifth Avenue and 42ndStreet
The orchestra performed on a specially designed tap stage as part of the opening ceremonies of the 42nd Street Festival. They were joined during the performance by Ginger Rogers.

The Hudson Guild Theatre

The Four Seasons/Jazz Version
A premiere performance of an adaptation of Vivaldi's tribute to nature. The Four Seasons/Jazz Version captured the many styles of jazz music and tap dancing superimposed against the changing moods of the seasons. Directed by Pulitzer Prize recipient Edward Cornell, original music by Grammy Award winner Benny Golson, Choreography by Ms. Bufalino, and starring Charles "Honi" Coles.

OBIE Awards

The ATDO was one of two artistic groups asked to perform during this prestigious Off Broadway award show at the Ritz Theatre. They performed two numbers.

Two lunch time performances out of doors at New York Telephone Plaza.
Part of an annual jazz series.

Lincoln Center "Out of Doors" Festival

The ATDO was a major element in an entire day devoted to tap, performing a panoply of dances in front of the Lincoln Center fountain in the main plaza.

The Cotton Club Benefit Performance

This black tie event, held at the legendary Cotton Club featured guest performances by some of America's great tap masters including Jimmy Slyde and the Copasetics. Other performers included Bill Irwin, Michael Mochen, Bob Berky, Robert Duvall, and Jazz pianist Barry Harris. The event was co chaired by Charles "Honi" Cole and Tommy Tune. The December 5th performance was created and designed specifically with students in mind. Reaching a younger audience introducing them to Jazz Rhythm Tap.

A full length tap concert at Glassboro State College in Glassboro, New Jersey. This two hour performance included the premiere of two new works : "That's Jazz Suite" and "Inspired by Gershwin".

One Acting Co.,Inc. (420 West 42nd St.)
The ATDO organized a special performance in which potential agents, benefactors, and board members attended. This one hour presentation was attended by approximately 45 people with 13 agencies represented.

Central Park "Summerstage" Series

As part of the International Festival of The Arts, the ATDO opened the Summer Stage Series at the Naumberg Bandshell in Central Park. The group premiered two new works, "Inspired by Gershwin" and the "All Jazz Suite", which were very well received by a large and enthusiastic crowd. The evening also included performances by Lenny Pickett and the Borneo Horns and the Persuasions.

Columbus Dance Workshop

Four featured dancers from The American Tap Orchestra, performed ATDO material in a full length concert at the North High School Auditorium in Columbus, Indiana. This was a collaboration between ATDO and NYC Tapworks.

PBS "Great Performances"

The American Tap Dance Orchestra was featured in a "Dance in America" special on tap dance for channel 13's Great Performances. This program entitled "Tap Dance in America" was aired in March of 1989. Other featured artists included Gregory Hines, Tommy Tune, Jimmy Slyde, Buster Brown, Bunny Briggs, Sandman Simms, and Savion Glover.

Benefit for the Metropolitian Opera Assoc.
ATDO was the featured talent for this gala honoring the USA and its contributions to music and opera at the Metropolitian Opera House at Lincoln Center, NYC.

The American Tap Dance Orchestra was invited to perform at LOLA Restaurant which inspired a series of tap performances on Friday and Saturday evenings in August and September by other local tap soloists and companies.

A collaborative event between ATDO staff, Flobert, Ltd., and other members of the NYC Chapter of the International Tap Assoc. This event was in celebration of National Tap Dance Day and honored the Copasetics.

Germany

The ATDO and ITDO had its premiere performance and co-produced Festival and Workshop in Furth, Germany at the Stadttheater Furth. Included in the Festival was master classes taught by members of the ATDO, a lecture demonstration by Ms. Bufalino, a full length evening performance, and a exhibit on tap dance history. This ITDO project included dancers representing Germany, Holland, Denmark, South Africa, Ireland, and dancers from the American Tap Dance Orchestra.

Tap City features eight action packed days of programs and events where hundreds of tap dancers converge on the tap dance capital of the world to study, perform, teach, observe, share and dance!

MASTER TAP INTENSIVE
Master Tap Intensives give advanced students a chance to work with a top teacher and choreographer in the field. Students experience first hand the choreographic process and creation of original material that will be presented in future productions produced by the ATDF.
