A 9 hour series of classes to learn Brenda Bufalino's ground breaking work entitled "The White Buffalo Suite" which was originally created for the American Tap Dance Orchestra touring company. Some participating students perform this work at Tap City in July!

THANK YOU GREGORY was a show designed to honor Gregory while tributing numerous legends of tap dance, and featured outstanding tap soloists in the field today including: Brenda Bufalino, Jason Samuels Smith, Roxanne Butterfly, Karen Callaway Williams, Van Porter, Josh Hilberman, and Nate Cooper. I acted as the Master of Ceremonies. The program also featured live music, and projected images of tap’s rich history. Tap City presented the best of the annual New York City Tap Festival, touring North America with an international cast of legendary tap veterans, cutting-edge tap soloists, and up-and-coming young talent. The cast of Tap City was drawn from a list of performers who have been featured in the New York City Tap Festival since it’s inception in 2001.

Annual ATDF Winter Tap Intensive
A weekend of 16 dynamic master classes with Harold Cromer, Barbara Duffy, Thelma Goldberg, Derick K. Grant, Constance Valis Hill, Molutsi Mogami, Margaret Morrison, Jimmy Tate, Lynn Schwab, Tony Waag, and Karen Callaway Williams as well as a new tap choreography showcase, and an annual field trip to the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts to visit the Gregory Hines Collection of American Tap Dance Archives.

Free tour and orientation of the Gregory Hines Collection of American Tap Dance, housed in the Dance Collection at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, the largest repository for dance materials in the world. 100s of hours of tap dance video footage and materials are available to all for viewing and research.

Join us for the opening social event of Tap City 2006, the New York City Tap Festival! Meet fellow dancers, and party with our incredible faculty, performers and staff. An Evening of Rare Tap Dance Films (7:00 pm)

Hosted by Constance Valis Hill, with special guest Mercedes Ellington with an emphasis on Tap Dance and Orchestral Collaborations. Rarely seen tap films going back to the 1920's will be shown including: Duke Ellington's Black & Tan (1929), featuring the 5 Dancing Blazers, Duke Ellington's Concert of Sacred Music (1965) featuring Bunny Briggs and Jon Hendricks, and Touch, Turn, Return (1991) featuring Brenda Bufalino and the American Tap Dance Orchestra. As an added attraction, the program opened with a short preview from an upcoming feature documentary about the lives of four legendary women tappers: Brenda Bufalino, Lynn Dally, Sara Petronio, and Dianne Walker directed by Jenai Cutcher of JamJam Productions (jamjamproductions.org).
