September 12, 2011 - June 17, 2012 ATDF youth
programs, for children and teens, teach students about America’s own indigenous
art form – Tap. Our distinguished faculty shares their knowledge of the artistry
and history of tap with each student in a fun, safe and supportive
environment.
What makes our
classes different?
Creative Rhythms Pre-Tap for 3-1/2 to 4 year olds is a fun, 45 minute creative movement class. Through rhythm, music and movement games, children develop motor coordination and build towards tap dance basics. Beginning Tap Classes for ages 5 through teens: Beginning 1A, 1B, & 1C are for dancers with no tap experience or less than one to two years continuous tap training. Beginning 2 and 3 are for students with one to three years tap training. Classes start with the basics and build solid tap technique in a fun and supportive environment. Exercises, improvisation skills, and simple combinations give a foundation for learning tap repertory in higher levels. Students are placed according to tap level, age and motor skills. Repertory Classes levels I though V
are for students ages 8 to teen who have mastered beginning tap skills and are
ready to learn tap repertory. Students progress through five levels of tap
technique, improvisation skills and classic and contemporary repertory passed
down from a rich tap legacy. Percussive
Dance Forms offers a
fun variety of rhythm making dance forms. Each session focuses on one or two
styles: hip hop, step, swing, African, and more! Percussive Dance B is for ages
8-10. Dancers may register for
one, two, or all three sessions.
Percussive Dance C, Saturdays @ 1:30-2:30 for ages 11& up New Session begins Saturday, January 7th featuring "Flamenco" with La Magdalena This is your chance to jump in and join a great new class offered in the ATDF Youth Program! So far, our Percussive Dance classes have explored the styles of Step Dance, Hip Hop, & Swing Dance. Now we'll be getting a taste of Spain, with "Flamenco" dance! Flamenco is a percussive dance form, originating in Spain, which uses the feet to make rhythms, and hands for clapping rhythms, all with a sense of style and drama!
Registration Now Open Our new session begins on Saturday, January 7th, and will conclude on Saturday, March 17th. If you are not already enrolled in the Percussive Class, you may sign up now through Jan 7th for this 10 week session. This class is open and encouraged for ATDF students at levels 3C, 4C, Rep I and above.
If you are not currently an ATDF student, please call for recommendation of which level of class if correct for your dancer.
Cost for 10 weeks of Flamenco Dance is $275.00 To register for this class, contact our registrar, Courtney Runft: crunft@atdf.org. For more information, contact Susan Hebach: shebach@atdf.org, or Courtney Runft.
There is a specific shoe requirement, please contact shebach@atdf.org, or see the front desk for those specifics. (Use of tap shoes is possible, but Magdalena prefers more of a character shoe, w/no taps). We are researching placing a group order for an economy shoe (in which students would purchase through ATDF, and pulling some shoes from stock to have proper shoes for class). Junior Ensemble An invitation-only class for dancers (ages 8-13) who have completed Tap Repertory 1. For the young dancer who wants more--more tap repertory, more rhythms, and more performance skills! Students must be registered in a weekly tap technique class at the American Tap Dance Center. Intermediate & Advanced Technique for Teens and Adults is taught by a roster of master teachers with a focus on technique, rudiments, repertory and honing advanced rhythm tap skills.
