R1 – Residency with Brenda Bufalino (Intermediate and Advanced): "Intensive for Tap Teachers, Teacher in Training, and Choreographers". Ms. Bufalino leads an intensive 2-day workshop for teachers, teachers in training, and tap choreographers on music skills, approaches to composition, and essential information on ways to nurture your own and your students’ development as dancing musicians and rhythm professionals. One day of the intensive will include live accompaniment with a jazz pianist, who is skilled in many styles, and will be available to help answer your music questions. Intensive will include: music basics and advanced concepts all tap dancers need; selecting the best recorded music for your students and your practice; honing solid tap technique; developing your choreographic voice; nurturing individual artistry in yourself and your students.

Participants are asked to purchase and read Ms. Bufalino’s book Tapping the Source: Tap Dance Stories, Theory, and Practice before coming to the Intensive. Copies may be purchased through the ATDF Store. Ms Bufalino has taught teachers’ workshops throughout the US and in 2011 she received an Artistic Achievement Award from the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters in recognition of her over 35 years as a pioneer in tap dance artistry and rhythm tap education. Two of her choreographic works have been deemed American Masterpieces by the National Endowment for the Arts. - Biography
