TECHNIQUE: Youth Program students will be placed in either Group A, B, or C based on their technical level and placement video. Each morning begins with a class to warm everyone up and develop clean tap technique, taught by either Chloe Arnold, Cartier Williams, or Karida Griffith.

REPERTORY: After a quick break, students will continue working in their Repertory Group with choreographer Chloe Arnold, Cartier Williams, or Karida Griffith.

LUNCH: Be sure to send your dancer with daily lunches, healthy snacks, fruit juices, water, energy bars etc. for a long day of dancing. Students will have lunchtime in a designated studio with staff supervision.

MASTER CLASSES: Each afternoon dancers will have a special master class, designed to enhance their rhythm skills and tap knowledge.

               Performance Skills with Dexter Jones

Tap Improvisation with Nicholas Young, Dormeshia Sumbry Edwards or Chloe Arnold

Lunchtime Tap Films and Fun with Dianne Walker

SHIM SHAM: Students who don’t know the Shim Sham (also called the “Tap Dancer’s Anthem”) will be placed in a class to learn it. Students who already know the dance will be placed in a review class that will go over the Shim Sham and other material. This will be performed at Tap Future AND Tap it Out!

FRIDAY TAP FUTURE STAGE REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE: On Friday afternoon, all the Youth Program tap dancers will be escorted by Tap City staff and chaperones by subway uptown to Symphony Space for a stage rehearsal. Friday at 8:00 students will perform in Tap Future.

SATURDAY TAP IT OUT:

Your Youth Program Package includes participation in TAP IT OUT! Tap City’s unique outdoor celebration of percussive feet Saturday, July 13. Imagine a chorus of 100s of tapping feet performing a cappella choreography in multiple tap dance styles. Tap City participants will create this explosion of tones and rhythms. Tap It Out is created and staged by the mayor of Tap City Tony Waag and assisted by dancer Lynn Schwab. Once you enroll, you will receive detailed information in the Spring.
