ABOUT THE ADULT RESIDENCIES:

There are four Residencies on four different levels. You can select one or two Residencies (morning and/or afternoon) depending on how intensive a training program you want. Students study intensively with a choreographer for 4 days, learning new or classic works of tap repertory. The Residencies culminate with a fun and informal performance by all the Tap City Residency groups at Tap Future the All-Student Showcase Friday, July 12, 7:30 PM at Symphony Space.

R1 INT/ADV – Brenda Bufalino: A 4-day intensive residency with Ms. Bufalino, learning her original, professional level tap repertory and preparing for performance.

R2 ADV BEG – Barbara Duffy - Latin Flavored Rhythms for the Advanced Beginner Student: A 4-day intensive of Ms. Duffy’s original choreography, focusing on polishing your technique and style using Latin-Jazz flavored rhythms.

R3 ADV – Jason Samuels Smith – “ACANSMELLYA”: Dancers will work intensively for 4 days with Mr. Samuels Smith, learning a challenging a cappella piece where they will be one and the same with the music. Can you smell me?

R4 INTDianne Walker -: A 4-day intensive residency, working with a choreographer on intermediate level tap repertory. Ms. Walker will be assisted by Lia Spirka.

ABOUT TAP IT OUT! REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCE:

Students should plan to arrive at Tap City on later than Monday afternoon to begin Tap It Out rehearsals which continue each afternoon, Tuesday-Friday.

All Tap City students will rehearse five days in preparation for TAP IT OUT! Tap City’s unique outdoor celebration of percussive feet Saturday, July 13. Imagine a chorus of 100s of tapping feet performing a cappella choreography in multiple tap dance styles. Tap City participants will join local professionals to create this explosion of tones and rhythms. Tap It Out is created and staged by the mayor of Tap City Tony Waag and assisted by dancer Lynn Schwab. If you are registered in the Adult, Pre-Professional or Youth Program, you have the opportunity to participate in this event as it is included in your package! Once you enroll, you will receive detailed instructions in the Spring. Each dancer will dance on their own platform, which will be supplied by Tap City, and, will learn their part of the presentation in advance via YouTube. Adult and teen group rehearsals will take place Monday, July 8th - Saturday, July 13th and are designed around your regular class schedule.

Levels for Adult Program/Master Classes (listed challenging to easiest):

ADV: Fast moving or challenging classes for advanced and professional tap dancers.

INT/ADV: Challenging classes for intermediate and advanced students.

INT: Challenging concepts and choreography for Intermediate level dancers.

SLOW INT: Slower paced classes that focus on intermediate choreography and concepts. In Slow Intermediate level, material will be broken down at an easier pace than in an Intermediate level class. Recommended for students who are already very comfortable with tap basics, time steps, paddle & roll, and are ready to move on to more challenging choreography and concepts.

MIX: Mixed level classes for advanced beginning, intermediate, advanced & professional dancers. Students will work at their own level. Material taught may allow students to work more deeply on moderately paced or challenging concepts.

ADV BEG: Advanced Beginning choreography and concepts broken down and taught at a moderate pace. Recommended for students who are comfortable with flaps, shuffles, time steps, paddle & roll. Excellent choice for dancers with just a few years’ experience or older dancers who want to learn at a more relaxed pace.
