MEET MY CREW

Tap Explorations:Tappin’ Into New York

Saturday, April 13, 2019 (5-6pm)

American Tap Dance Center, 154 Christopher Street #2B, (between Washington & Greenwich Streets)

This event is ESPECIALLY for families with kids age 5 & up.  Members of our Tap City Youth Ensembles, ages 10-17  will share an exploration of tap dance, presenting works from the early beginnings of tap dance to current choreographers on the scene.  You’ll get a bit of Tap history, trivia, and even have a spot feature from a special ATDF Artist in Residence, Christina Carminucci.  Don’t miss it! Free, but donations encouraged. 

 

Tap Explorations is a new family fun series curated by the ATDF to explore the rich and diverse world of Tap Dance featuring a variety of live performances from our ATDF artists in residence & The Tap City Youth Ensemble; film clips, discussion and demonstrations about the history of Tap Dance, and audience participation!  Expect a feast of rhythm and ideas, fun for the whole family.  Free to ATDF students & families.  Open to the public, donations recommended.

Come and see the Tap City Youth Ensemble in action, as they present thier production about the history of Tap Dance as it was developed in New York City. These talented young dancers age 11-18 will be rehearsing a variety of classic and contemporary choreography. Open to all ages.

Duke Ellington’s 120th Birthday Celebration
Sunday, April 28, 2019 (1:00pm - 3:00pm)

This annual event is thrown by the Duke Ellington Center for the Arts to commemorate Duke Ellington’s birthday.

Join us at the Duke Ellington statue on 5th Avenue and 110th Street, Manhattan, for performances and celebrations that are FREE & open to the public. Featuring performances from Tony Waag & the Tap City Youth Ensemble and Others to be announced. Artistic direction by Mercedes Ellington.

13th Annual Dance Parade
Saturday, May 18, 2019

This year ATDF students, parents, families and artists will be participating in both the Dance Parade and the DanceFest 2019.The 12th Annual Dance Parade starts at 1pm on 21st and Broadway. It travels down Broadway and then Union Square West turning into University Place. It follows University place to 8th Street (aka St. Marks Place) where it turns east on 8th Street. At Astor Place it passes in front of the Grandstand and then continues on to Tompkins Square Park for is DanceFest 2019. DanceFest comes alive in Tompkins Square Park on 5 Stages with free Performances and dance instruction.
