An audition video is NOT required for the Youth Showcase of Talent.  Applications are accepted from teachers, schools, individuals, and independents.  All festival goers in the Youth and Pre-Professional programs will have the opportunity to perform in the Youth Showcase.  Youth Showcase of Talent pieces must be 3 minutes (or less) in duration. Read below for music requirements.  We will accept Showcase Applications until July 6, 2008.

Tap Youth / Tap Future Application:  Performers are chosen by video submission.   Students must fill out and submit a Performance Application with a video of their work following the directions below.  Submissions are accepted from teachers, schools, individuals, and independents.  Read below for music and video requirements.  Deadline is May 15, 2008.

Your Music:

Only professional quality recorded CD's are acceptable for both the Youth Showcase and Tap Youth/Tap Future. Badly burned CD's that are inaudible will result in your dancing a cappella. Please bring one copy for your performance and bring a backup copy with you. Both CD's should include name of school and name of piece. Only the piece that you are performing should be on your CD. Please leave a 5 second lead in. If you are planning to perform with our live band (Tap Youth/Tap Future ONLY), please include a copy of your chart(s) with your complete submission. Remember to collect your CD's, and all musical charts at the end of your performance day/evening. The ATDF is not responsible for any music that is left behind or left anywhere during our Festival.

Video Requirements for Tap Youth/Tap Future:

Performers are chosen for Tap Youth/Tap Future by video submission.  To submit for the Tap Youth/Tap Future performance, your submissions may be 5 minutes (or less) in duration.  Your sending must represent the exact piece of work that you wish to be considered, to the same music, and in the same exact attire that you will be wearing for this performance. Tap Youth/Tap Future performers may perform to recorded music or (if applicable) may perform with a live jazz trio (piano, bass, and drums), which will be available. Audition footage must be in DVD or VHS American NTSC Format only. European and overseas applicants: video must be compatible with American video systems; we cannot accept PAL or SECAM formats.

We will not accept multiple packages of separate submission information or materials. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Notification:

We will send email notification by May 23 to all Youth Showcase and Tap Youth/Tap Future applicants informing you as to which shows you will be performing in. All decisions are final.  Students who have not registered yet for classes at this time must register immediately to hold their performance spot.  Dancers who are not chosen for Tap Youth/Tap Future will be given a performance opportunity in the Youth Showcase.

Important:

Don't get left out of a performance opportunity... think ahead!

If you are auditioning for our Tap Youth / Tap Future show with an audition piece that is over 3 minutes in duration, this piece WOULD NOT be eligible for a performance opportunity in the Youth Showcase of Talent.  If you are given a spot in the Youth Showcase, please be prepared with an alternate selection that is 3 minutes or less.

We are excited to see our new tappers for Festival 2008, and we can't wait to see our returning student's improvements each year, so start sending now!
We are awaiting your videos with great anticipation, Good Luck!

ADULT SHOWCASE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Who is eligible to perform:

The Adult Student Showcase is an opportunity for Tap City students (ages 16 +) to share their talents with each other.

Because of time constraints, ensembles, duets, and trios are encouraged to apply.  Soloists will be considered only if time permits.

All Showcase performers must be enrolled in a minimum of three adult master classes or one adult residency. There is no audition and a video submission is not required.

There are two ways to get a performance opportunity:

  • Send a Performance Application and register for a minimum of 3 Master Classes or 1 Adult Residency:  for groups who wish to perform their own material.
  • Register for an Adult Residency:  for students who wish to learn material to perform.

Adult Showcase Application:

Students must fill out and submit a Performance Application and must register for classes.  An audition video is NOT required for the Adult Showcase.  All festival goers in the Adult Program and Master Classes will have the opportunity to perform in the Adult Showcase.  Showcase pieces must be 3 minutes (or less) in duration. Read below for music requirements.  This application will reserve your spot in the Adult Showcase, but participation is not confirmed until all performers have registered for Tap City classes.  Performance slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and we encourage ensembles to apply early.  Space permitting, we will accept Showcase Applications until July 6, 2008.

Adult Residencies:

Students who wish to learn a piece of choreography to perform at the Adult Showcase at Symphony Space may register for one or more 4-Day Adult Residencies, July 6 – 9.  Our 2008 Master Choreographers are:

  • Ernest “Brownie” Brown & Reggio McLaughlin – Mixed Level
  • Barbara Duffy – Advanced
  • Derick Grant – Advanced Beginner

Visit  Adult Programs for full Residency information. Students study for four days with a master choreographer.  The Residencies culminate on the evening of July 9 with an informal, work-in-progress showing by the students of the material they have learned.  Full details about the Residencies and Showcase will be sent to students after registration.
